Innocence By Mandi Ducroq
Innocence stolen without my permission
Innocence gone without my submission Innocence lost through another's plan Innocence no longer for another man Innocence turned to hatred and fear Innocence gone, no man can come near Innocence taken from a little girls heart Innocence replaced by mistrust, you thought you were smart Innocence dissapears like dew in the sun Innocence faded before it's begun Innocence obscured like a cloud over the moon Innocence ripped away too soon |
The theme of this poem is that our innocence has been taking away from us and is being replaced by negativity. Mandi conveys this messgae by describing how taking away our innocence, we're now exposed to mistrust, hatred, fear etc. Mandi used metaphors throughout her poem by saying our innocence was stolen, gone, replaced etc. She also used imagery when she writes,"innocence obscured like a cloud over the moon".

The Roads Of Life Keep Winding Up And Down By Francis Duggan
The roads of life keep winding up and down
They take us to obscurity and renown It is a journey we must undertake And along the way there's joy and there's heartbreak. A journey that one day does have an end Along the way we do make many a friend And having said that here and there a foe As on the road that leads through life we go. Their road through life to fame some people lead They are the people destined to succeed Whilst many fame and fortune never know For their life journey little they do show. The journey through life at birth does begin For baby who is born free of sin But the innocence of youth is quickly lost Survival instincts come at a great cost. And the innocence we are born with erode As we journey on along our great life's road A new day and new challenge greets us at every bend On our journey that one day must have an end. |
The theme of this poem is that we lose our innocence as soon as start to grow up. Francis conveys this message by writing how in the beginning of our lives, we have not sinned, but as soon as we matured we've either made good or bad decisions. This whole poem has a lot of metaphors as the poet describes our life as a journey and a road that has a lot of ups and downs.

Past Hopes By Agnis Lynota
I remember being a toddler,
Being a preteen, Then being a teenager, All while wondering and hoping, That I'll be exquisite when I grow up. Now I'm nothing of interest to myself My mind has been blended with memories That can never be mended My heart is worn out from the torment and doubt So I just seek love in things people can give me rather than people who can give me things I smoke so I can feel alright I drink every night And when I wake in the morning I try to close my eyes tightly Because I don't want to see another day of failure Another day of disappointment To my past innocence Because the only time I find happiness Is when I reminisce |
The theme of this poem is that a happy childhood doesn't neccesarily equal up to a happy adulthood. Agnis conveys this message because she talks about how growing up was such a bliss, but now her adulthood isn't going so well. She uses a metaphor when she says,"now I'm nothing of interest to myself". Another poetic device is personification when she writes,"...memories that can never be mended".

For Many Life Is A Hard Battle By Francis Duggan
For many life is a hard battle but most rise again after a fall
And from life babies do begin learning long before they learn how to crawl
It would be nice to stay innocent for a lifetime but the innocence of childhood doesn't last
The years seem to go by so quickly and time as we know ticks on fast
'Tis sad to think some children have their innocence from them stolen and are exploited in the worst possible way
That they cannot look back on a happy childhood does seem so sad to have to say
The crimes committed against children are not easy crimes to forgive
Those guilty of such terrible atrocities with their shame must find it hard to live
I consider myself to be lucky my childhood years I did enjoy
Compared to many I feel privileged I did enjoy life as a boy
In the green countryside west of Millstreet where I grew into a young man
I learned about life from my mentors and my enduring love of Nature began
For so many life is a hard battle and they've never known of happy years
And they must live with their haunting memories of their unhappy childhood years.

The theme of this poem is that not everyone lives a happy childhood. Francis conveys this message by comparing his own happy childhood to those who never even had one. He used personification as a poetic device when he writes,"...some children have their innocence from them stolen...". Another poetic device used is a metaphor when he writes,"...life is a hard battle...".
